Wendell Lane

Born in Alamogordo and raised in nearby Cloudcroft, Wendell Lane has over thirty years combined experience in New Mexico law and education. After receiving his BA in English from NMSU in 1982 and then graduating from UNM Law School in 1986, he practiced with a civil defense firm in Las Cruces and then worked as a mediator with the Workers’ Compensation Administration before setting up practice in Alamogordo. He maintained a general civil practice there, focusing on civil litigation and appeals.

While practicing law in Alamogordo, Wendell began teaching classes in writing and business law at the local branch of NMSU, while also working part-time as a middle school athletics coach. Discovering a passion for teaching and working with youth, he transitioned to a career in secondary education in 2002, where he combined his legal education and experience with his love of language and history. Teaching social studies, language arts and Spanish, and coaching cross country and track and field, he worked in public high schools for seventeen years,in Cloudcroft, Santa Fe and Albuquerque, before returning to legal practice in 2019. He continues to hold a level three NM secondary teaching license.

As an educator, Wendell honed his skills in conflict resolution and became a more polished speaker, writer, and facilitator. With perspective gained from his unique background and career path, Wendell’s practice is focused on administrative hearings, mediation, group and project facilitation, and appellate litigation. In his spare time, he enjoys running, cycling, hiking, camping, gardening, reading and writing. Wendell is fluent and literate in Spanish.
