Lane + Linnenburger + Lane and Martinez Law Colorado filed a lawsuit against the Archdiocese of Denver, The Theatine Brothers and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Parish in Denver last week on behalf of a survivor of priest sexual abuse in the 1980's. Lane + Linnenburger + Lane partner Paul Linnenburger led the team's investigation and, according to the complaint, uncovered a concerned citizen that reported the priest to the Archdiocese in the 1980's, only to be silenced by the Church. The priest would go on to serve prominently until the late 1990's.
This is, unfortunately, all-too-common a story within the Catholic Church generally, and within Colorado specifically. The state Attorney General released a report showing that dozens of children were abused after the Church received reports of abuse by the perpetrator. This must stop. Institutions must be held accountable and cultures changed in a meaningful way. That is precisely why we are proud to stand with clients like this.
